What is a Visual Inspection?
Drone inspection services are primarily concerned with visual inspections (though they are not limited to them). Visual inspections are where you examine an asset with careful consideration, looking for blemishes or signs of disrepair that could be the cause of malfunction. They can either take place because the functionality of the asset seems to be in question, or it can be part of a routine maintenance process that sees assets inspected after a set number of days or a certain number of uses. Visual inspections have previously been managed by people in-person, but drones can now give live video footage, a recorded video, or a set of photographs that is just as effective.
Many inspections need to take place in areas which aren’t easy to reach, or they’re in dangerous positions which could threaten the safety of the inspector. In the past, people have had to climb up to precarious positions which undoubtedly undermine their safety and wellbeing. Drone services like ours ensure that you won’t have to do anything like that – or at least reduce the need for human intervention in this regard. You can either determine whether there seems to be any fault present, and if there is (or further investigation is necessary) then an in-person investigator can be dispatched.
Oftentimes, to manage inspections, you’d need to craft scaffolding structures which would allow access to the area that is under investigation. These are time consuming and laborious by nature, and they’re also expensive to set up and safely bring down. Of course, it’s also possible that the inspected area could suffer from some damage due to a construction related mishap. You can seriously reduce the cost of inspection if you use a drone with 4k camera capabilities, eliminating the need for more substantial intervention.
Drones don’t just reduce the potential hazard of inspecting an area or an asset – they also carry out the work far more quickly than would otherwise be possible. This allows you to get on with other tasks, and focus on work that really needs doing. It’s also possible that something might need to be turned off before it can be inspected in person (heavy machinery comes to mind), and by using a drone, you reduce the time that this instrument will experience downtime. This saves time and money, and promotes profitability.
